The Asian Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (AFMC) was established in 1992 through the participation of regional medicinal chemistry societies from Australia, China, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Turkey. The AFMC aims to promote the scientific exchange and interaction among all member societies for the betterment of human health through the development of new drugs and prevention protocols for various diseases.

The Core Values of AFMC lies in the member societies¡¯

  2. (2) Support for building a stronger regional research community
  3. (3) Inclusion of all cultural heritage, traditional knowledge, and perspectives
  4. (4) Network building on shared research goals.

The AFMC organizes a biennial international symposium, the AFMC International Medicinal Chemistry Symposium (AIMECS), and the first AIMECS was held in Japan in 1995. Throughout its 30-year history, the AFMC has become one of the regional medicinal chemistry society federation such as the European and American counterparts; the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC) and the American Chemical Society Division of Medicinal Chemistry (ACS MEDI).
